The Whistler Longboard Festival broke new ground this year when they introduced the Skate X Shoot competition to the program. Combining target shooting with distance pushing, the event provided skaters with a new challenge. And who doesn’t love playing with guns? Check out Rayne’s edit from the event.

For the first time ever, the 2012 Whistler Longboard Festival hosted the Skate X Shoot Presented by Rayne Longboards. Taking place at the Whistler Olympic Park (WOP) on on July 12, 2012. The morning included a 20km Endurance Race with a $1000 Cash Podium – won by Rayne’s Paul Kent. The Skateboard Biathlon (Skate x Shoot) similar to winter ski biathlon hosted in the afternoon carried a similar $1000 Cash Podium – also won by Rayne’s Paul Kent. 

The Skate x Shoot tested speed, pushing, downhill, turns, agility, accuracy and stamina. Competitors skated up and down 10km of looping mountain trail-way, with two stops at the target range.

Justus Zimmerly

Born in Chicago and raised on the flat Canadian prairies, it wasn’t until moving to Ontario for school in 2005 that Justus got a taste for riding skateboards down hills. Since then it’s been a bit of an obsession. He graduated with a degree in Film Studies, but spent as much time focussed on skateboarding as he did on studying. Now he’s living the good life in Oakland, California, riding his motorcycle and working as Editor-in-chief for Skate[Slate].
