Skaters from around the world have been lighting up Facebook all weekend in regards to the IGSA World Championship in Calgary, Alberta. By most accounts, the weekend was a fiasco. Run-ins with the police, slow race progress, and a spotty live feed all fueled the tensions at the event.

However, there were still some good moments throughout the weekend. Skaters took some time to honor the memory of Duncan McRae, a 13 year old rider who died in an unfortunate accident just days before the event. Hit the link for a video: Longboarders pay tribute to Calgary teen

Born in Chicago and raised on the flat Canadian prairies, it wasn’t until moving to Ontario for school in 2005 that Justus got a taste for riding skateboards down hills. Since then it’s been a bit of an obsession. He graduated with a degree in Film Studies, but spent as much time focussed on skateboarding as he did on studying. Now he’s living the good life in Oakland, California, riding his motorcycle and working as Editor-in-chief for Skate[Slate].
