Surprisingly hot on the heels of the last GoPro release, the HERO3 HD camera has just been launched. Downhill skateboarding’s favorite camera just keeps getting better and better with each iteration. This new release includes 3 different versions: The White Edition has the same performance specs as the original HERO HD, the Silver Edition replaces the HERO2, and the Black Edition is the real marvel of technology here. All three are smaller and lighter than previous versions

The Black edition offers some impressive framerates and resolutions, from 120fps at 720p up to 12fps at 4k. That 4k mode will probably be useless for most people, but the point is that you can still get some crazy high resolution out of these things. 1080p seems to be the most versatile resolution, allowing framerates of 24, 30, 48, and 60 fps and field of view options of wide, medium, and narrow. If you want to shoot in 720p, you can get up to 120fps for some super slow motion. Image sharpness, lowlight performance, and sound quality are supposedly also improved significantly.

Anyhow, that’s enough techno-geekery, hit the jump and see the Black Edition in action:

Born in Chicago and raised on the flat Canadian prairies, it wasn’t until moving to Ontario for school in 2005 that Justus got a taste for riding skateboards down hills. Since then it’s been a bit of an obsession. He graduated with a degree in Film Studies, but spent as much time focussed on skateboarding as he did on studying. Now he’s living the good life in Oakland, California, riding his motorcycle and working as Editor-in-chief for Skate[Slate].

They should put longboard footage in their videos. We use GoPros a lot.
