After being teased about it for ages, we’ve finally got the first episode of West Coastin’, the series of films documenting the roadtrip up to the Maryhill She-Ride, as undertaken by Ishtar Backlund, Marisa Nunez, Amanda Powell, Pam Diaz, and Daisy Johannes. The journey started in LA, so this episode covers the first few days spent freeriding the hills of Malibu and Santa Barbara.

We proudly present to you the first episode of Longboard Girls Crew: West Coastin’, a documentation of five skater girls’ journey up the west coast to the first all-girls Maryhill She-Ride. Ishtar Backlund, Pam Diaz, Daisy Johannes, Marisa Nunez, and Amanda Powell sat in Amanda and Adam Colton’s apartment in Santa Monica and planned out a trip north, beginning in Los Angeles and ending at Maryhill, stopping at plenty of skate spots along the route. This first episode shows our relaxed days skating some of the hills in Southern California, hitting spots in Malibu and Santa Barbara that Amanda and Daisy knew locally. We were just diving into our two week trip – roughing it in tents and having no schedule but to skate, film, dance, and have a fun time. We did just that. Enjoy!

Born in Chicago and raised on the flat Canadian prairies, it wasn’t until moving to Ontario for school in 2005 that Justus got a taste for riding skateboards down hills. Since then it’s been a bit of an obsession. He graduated with a degree in Film Studies, but spent as much time focussed on skateboarding as he did on studying. Now he’s living the good life in Oakland, California, riding his motorcycle and working as Editor-in-chief for Skate[Slate].
