Transylvania Downhill 2016 Photos & 2017 Details

I was pumped to visit Romania for my first time for the Transylvania DH in 2016, it’s such a sick hill in a beautiful area of the world, the organisation was damn fine and the party epic. Some of my photos made the magazine for Skate Slate Issue 31, but I have been delayed in posting the additional photos. With some good news that the event is back on for 2017 I knew it was time. The Devastation Longboard Crew are offering not one, but two events this year and the second might well knock our socks off.

The DLC ’s second event, a new addition for 2017 is set at a different hill on the same mountain and promises 4km of hardcore steepness, with an intense 1.2km at 25%! Stay tuned for more news on the Devastation Crew’s facebook, there’s a video just gone up of the track, make sure to check it out.

Here’s the Photo Series Spread from Skate Slate Magazine Issue 31 and some additional photos to enjoy. Plus all the registration details and photos at the end.

Andreas Mangold high above the city of Lupeni.

This track has been lengthened by 0.7km since last year and is now solid smiles for 5.2km, has 12 wide hairpins, many sweepers and maximum speeds of over 90km/h. Gondola uplifts mean no waiting for uplifts and no coaches blocking the track – it’s possible to get sooooo many runs.

Bart Justin with the flow and poise

(Those who remember fondly the scramble from the bottom of the racetrack to the gondolas will be pleased to know that stairs and porta floor will be in use so your soles will be clean and and you’ll be ready to shred.)

Down to the lifts

Squad!

Taking refuge during an unexpectedly heavy downpour

Sinews winding through the trees

Anna Pixner diving past a roadside shrine.

Car beer: paid for

Rider safety is the crew’s top priority, and the track will be secured with 3000 hay bales, 2000 tyres and over 500 impact mattresses, plus 30 marshals equipped with 2-way radios.

UK boys cheery as always

Pre slide-jam slide-jam

After skate, I expect Mortal Combat will be taking a hammering on the x-box projection, and with activities, workshops and skate ramp plus a cheap bar and 30k soundsystem, it’s clear the crew really have pulled out all the stops to make every aspect of this event awesome. Hope to see you there!

Skate all day, party all night!

Don’t miss this event in 2017. It was one of my favourites of the year in 2016.
