Cult Classics
These. Wheels. ROCK! I picked up a set for my Clutch Lambchop and haven't been disappointed yet. Definitely my favorite freeride wheels I've ridden so far, and they're definitely worth it for the price.
Price: These things go for $39.95 on longboardskater.com, the only US online retailer for these wheels. These are the least expensive out of most freeride wheels on the market today that I could find (prices based on those advertised on longboardskater.com), such as Orangatang Freerides (up to $54, size dependent), Retro Freerides ($44.95), Pink Powerballs ($41.95), Abec 11 Classic Formula Freerides (up to $47, size dependent), EW Floaters (up to $49.95, size dependent), EW Road Rages, Smokers, and Obombers ($42.95, $44.95, and $48.95), and Venom Sidewinders ($40.95), to name a few. Needless to say, the price is competitive, and you are certainly getting a lot of bang for your buck.
Performance: As I've said before, my favorite freeride wheels I've ever ridden. They're sideset with a radiused outer lip, and come slightly "deconed" to allow for those extra few slides. I have never ridden a Krypto before, but I've heard the Cult Classic uses the same general Krypto shape with a few improvements.
The mysothane formula is a great formula for freeride. These wheels have a very predictable release and hookup, and once they're released, they slide like butter. Standup slides can be easily held out, and when you release the wheels for a big coleman or layback, you feel like you're positively gliding. Essentially, the slide on these wheels is genius.
They're pretty fast, definitely far faster than the urethane in Otang Freerides, but they don't feel as fast as my Lemon Zigzags. I have slid out a couple times on these, for instance, I didn't suck a frontside speedcheck all the way in when I was skating a narrow city road, and had to cut hard toeside to stay away from the curb; when I turned, my back wheels slipped out and I ended with a glorious superman, but that is going to happen with most dedicated freeride wheels.
Color/Style: This has never been a key piece of criteria for me when choosing wheels, but they're good looking nonetheless. The graphic stays on fairly well, certainly better than a zigzag or bigzig, and they're available in yellow thane with a pink graphic and core, and pink thane with a yellow graphic and core. The difference is purely cosmetic as far as I gather, as my friend's pink classics slide similar to my yellows.
Quality: I weigh about 140 lbs, and I'd say I've put close to 24 hours or so on these wheels, mostly freeriding and heelside predrifts from the local hills. They seem to be wearing pretty evenly, the outer lip's at about 68mm now and the inner lip looks to be a millimeter or 2 less. I haven't rotated them yet, and if they continue to stay at about this level of the coning, I don't expect that I'll need to flip them throughout their wear. I'm getting good impressions about their durability in the couple weeks I've owned them, and I've heard that they wear really nicely, so I have high hopes!
In summary, I would definitely recommend these wheels to both a serious freerider and someone just learning the ropes. Very easy to slide, and the slide is something more pleasant than most other wheels I've ridden. They're relatively fast, but I would by no means downhill on them due to their lack of grip, despite how pleasant their slide/drift is. They are very easy on the wallet, and are worth every penny unlike other wheels that I have owned.
Hope this review helps some to those of you on the fence! Now get up from your computer and go slashin' with some cult classics!
HGR!!!
awesome Wheels for any garage, really, grippy, big and fast
Buy it!!!
If you want a solid downhill board thats also great for freeriding and sliding get it. If your looking for a board thats more carve oriented i would recommend you look at other boards.
Great first board
This was my first deck and its what truly got me into longboarding. Its a great board and I recommend it for beginners. Get new trucks though!!! Gullwings suck!!!
Not so great
I bought this wheel looking for a soft wheel that would give me more slide than my 86a stims. I had heard people say things like, "It's like riding in the rain", or, "I can bust out 30 foot colemans at 20mph".
This hasn't been my experience. First ride, I expected these to slide like mad, so I got topsided and bailed over the front of my board. As I rode the wheels for a few days, I realized what I didn't like about them. The slide is great, and you can pull it out pretty far, but nothing like riding in the rain. The problem is the hookup. These guys hook up SHARP. If you put on ounce of your weight on the downhill wheels, you're in trouble. As you shift your weight back over the board after you slide, it really snaps back under you. At high speeds, this snap can bring you down.
The stims don't do this. More importantly, you don't get any significant amount of slide out of these that you don't get from stims. The stim shape just gives you a more predictable hookup, which I guess I should've expected from this wheel shape.
Bottom line, if you like a really abrupt hookup, you could really like these wheels. Personally, I like the stims because I can ease out of my slides better, and high speed predrifts don't topside me. On the up side, these wheels taught me a lot about weight distribution, and I can now manipulate my stims more freely.
For reference, these were ridden at speeds from pushing speed to 45mph.
Also for reference, the hookup on 80a 4prez is more predictable. I don't know what it is, but when you put any pressure on the downhill wheels, these things CHOP.
indestructible
great freeride board
flex 2 is nice 4 pumping
like big cabs? well then this is the board 4 u
had it 4 a long time did a bunch of sick gabs with it
WITH OUT IT BREAKING :3
gets a lill flexy when the fiber get off on the bottem if u go down stairs alott
great 4 sliding check slides slide suvzz ect
to topp it off i highly recomend u this board get it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(don't get the tan tien it's small and gay)
good shit
love it
nice 4 bombing hills watch out 4 speedwobbbeeellls when drafting people at high speedzz
good 4 cruzing .easy to push just keep an eye out on how high the side walk is cuzz it's really easy to scrach! but when u scrach it the virgin is broken and you don't really give a fuck so you go and slide down stairs :3
and don't put fly wheelzz on them stay @ 75mm alot lower
good entry level
I have had a 10 inch and 9inch set.
PROS-
Stock bushings are very lively.
Very fun carving trucks
Slightly wider than Randal 180´s.
Slide decently.
CONS-
Pivot cups dont last long at all. Very sloppy.
Stripped 2 kingpins, and 1 is about 2 go, not strong enough.
In all I´d say these are perfectly good entry level trucks. The stock bushings are far better than Randals. They dont last long if skated hard, but then most people dont.
We think they are great! How About you?
Hi there Cult fans! Brazilian Downhill skater Otavio Munhoz, well known in the downhill scene due to his impressive size (100kg/220lbs) and aggressive racing style, sent in this message,
"I used this wheels in Maryhill. For sure, they were the best one in my whole set of wheels. I could make more than two runs with it and they still were grip and fast!! The only problem is that I bought just one set to ride in there but they were good until the core!!!
No doubt about it, for me this is the best wheels that I have bought!!!
It is difficult to let them get square like the others on the market.
Blue Cult Rules!!!!!!!!!!" Otavio
So good news for heavier riders, and people that shred their wheels with merciless abuse. We designed the Cult race wheels to last longer than existing wheels, and have skaters coming back to us and confirming it. Each race we go to, each time someone asls to test ride a set, they Join the Cult- Check out the Cult wheels facebook page.
Okay trucks, but bad quality
These trucks are sweet for cruising and carving. the bushings seats are good and they turn pretty well and feel stable. They feel more stable and less turn and fun than randals or paris trucks. You can't flip the hangars, but if you like trucks that turn well you don't flip the hangar anyway so that doesn't have much to say. Even though they perform okay i wouldn't recommend anyone buying these trucks because the pivot cups can't handle any abuse, i have two sets of these 1 set of 150mm and a set of 180mm and both of my trucks are trashed. I also have a friend who has destroyed his pivot cups as well and when they are, they're pretty useless.
great trucks!
Indys are just great for dh or sliding! they work fine with the original kingpin but i would recommend to change it with a bigger one! These trucks have gangsta lean and it makes them ideal for freeride and sliding, it makes it easy to do standies and predrifts. And they also slide pretty well! For dh they're really low and perfect for topmounts, they also increase your wheelbase and you shouldn't have problems with wheelbite on these, if you do it's easy to get som venom eliminators. For dh you might have to get used to alot of lean on sweepers, but when you're used to it they totally rock!
I have two sets and I've had them on a lot of decks now, perfect for my chopped s9 bomb hills!
i could not love a human baby more than i love this board
this board is great for everything you could ever want to do. the drop thru and the rocker make this board super low so its easy to push. the concave is nice and not to harsh. its a slide machine, super easy to pull fat checks and 180s. and if you put on some nice trucks (im running randal 42s) you can take some big hills. and its way cheaper than anything else on the market at only 137 bucks for the deck.
Great first DH board
The Speedcarver was the first deck I bought to start doing some serious downhill riding. However it was the deck that I used for everything for about a year and a half.
The construction is fantastic. Fullbag really knows how to make a solid board. The maple plys made this deck really nice and stiff for downhill, while the formica base-sheet was very tough and resistant to scratches (although the graphic scraped off of it very easily, but that doesn't really matter). It is a tank: super durable and a little on the heavy side. I smashed the nose and tail of this thing a number of times and it didn't chip or delaminate or anything.
The shape allowed for a ton of wheel options. I never felt that I was going to get wheel bite. I did get hanger bite with flipped Fastracks, but I'm pretty sure any drop deck would. The shape of the board was also nice for my size 9.5 (US) feet. The front is nice and wide, with a slightly narrower back for leverage with your back foot through turns. Some people have asked whether the front foot is forced to stay a bit to far behind the front truck due to the cutouts, but I never found this to be a problem.
The radial concave was nice too, deep but not too aggressive. I think I prefer a little bit more than it has, but I'd imagine most will find it's concave to be plenty.
With less leverage on the trucks, I think the drop mounting was a nice feature to have while learning to slide and ride at speeds. The huge wheelbase also makes this board really nice and stable. However, one of the reasons I moved on from this board was that I was looking for something more nimble with a smaller wheelbase.
(+)
-Good construction, really durable
-Stable
-Nice concave
(-)
-A little heavy (but not substantially more than other DH decks)
-Not too nimble (due to the drop mount and huge wheelbase)
I found it to be a great board to start on, and I'd suggest it to anyone looking for a stable DH machine.
Feel free to message me with any further questions.
Space Gloves
After having a pair of Triple 8 slide gloves for over a year, I had to get a new pair of gloves just out of necessity. I had used my older pair from the start and they are in rags right now. These gloves are the perfect replacement. A bit pricey, but well worth the extra moolah.
To start, these things are basically indestructible. If you have experience and can keep your fingertips from brushing the pavement, you should be good to go. The pucks that come with the gloves are great and slide very smoothly. Personally, I remove the finger and thumb pucks because they get in the way, and thumb pucks have never been known to last. I always end up pinching them off during a run and never seeing them again because they can go flying if you make one wrong move with your thumb. I really like the fact that these don't have any velcro straps that loop around the wrist. The glove fits snugly, and the crash-resistant knuckle protectors are dope.
For all the bells and whistles, get these gloves. For practicality, get these gloves. For a long-life slide glove solution, get these gloves. Loaded did good work getting these out there, especially with their other sets of gloves on the market that tend to wear down pretty quickly.
Great Pads
I've had these knee pads for about 2 years now and they are fantastic.
They have a comfortable fit, and even more importantly, a snug one. These things will NOT MOVE once you've strapped them onto your legs, so you don't have to worry about them sliding down when you fall (making them useless).
They are really beefy and can take some big hits. You can comfortably fall onto your knees from a standing position. The replaceable sliders are also a plus, although mine still haven't needed a replacement.
The only disadvantage is their inherent size. You don't want to have these on for dancing. Other than that I use them all the time. And they can also get a bit hot, but not bad.
Great pads, worth the price, get 'em.
Awesome awesome wheels, just don't break them in
They are awesome DH wheels, JUST DON'T BREAK THEM IN YOUR REGRET IT!!! LIKE ME :)
Gumballs 88a
I didn't buy them they so happened to come with a other board i had, but i decided to test them out
They don't give you a controlled slide and because they are so hard they are not comfortable.
Abec 11 free ride wheels always have a weird urethane
Short-person's DH or... Great slide/freeride deck for people around 6ft!
Well the deck has minimal flex - noticeable if you lye on the ground and look at somebody jump on it but feels solid when riding - making it great for standies!
The board doesn't have a massive EFP, so there isn't a tonne of space to move your feet about.
Its concave isn't extreme nor mellow, enough to lock you in but occasionally I have slipped off when doing standies and not carving enough.
The nose/tail on this comet board particularly is well renowned for breaking/chipping. The newer decks are CNC'ed and not just cut through the plys - this makes it much harder for de-lam to occur and chips to develop more.
Now in my opinion, this board is FANTASTIC for freeride sliding - going around 20-40mph and doing lots of slides! It's fairly light so you can throw it about, is fairly short for a speedboard too, and is drop through! SICK! However, a lot of people don't like these characteristics - personally I like them for sliding because it helps you hold out your tricks for longer, and with more style.
Hope this helps, this board or any similar build is a must in your quiver! And for the price, great!
Great cast trucks
Just for reference:
I rode Bear 1052/40s before these.
I weigh 160lbs
Top bushing: white JimZ stim
Bottom Bushing: stock Tracker (amber)
Hangers Flipped
Topmounted (2008 Avenger)
Going from Bear 1052/40s to these was like night and day. The trackers were an incredible improvement. However, like most trucks, these don't truly shine until you play around with the bushings. I found keeping the stock tracker on the bottom kept great progression in the turn, while the JimZ stip really amped up the rebound and feel of them.
When I first got them, I rode them dropped through on a Fullbag Speedcarver. Due to the shape of the hangers, they had to be run unflipped, which worked better for the drop mount deck anyway. As soon as I switched to the Avenger I flipped the hangers. This lowered the ride hight a bit, and gave the trucks a bit more lean.
These trucks are great for everything I've thrown at them. I only ride one setup, so I need them to handle all kinds of situations. They carve, pump, slide, and bomb.
I found that the big bushing seats were really nice for my bushing setup, but they may be less comparable with smaller sized bushings (cones etc.). For barrels, stepped, or the stock tracker bushings, they should be good. You get a progressive feel and good rebound. They're nice and carvy, but stable at speed. I've used these trucks for dodging people cruising on sidewalks, and for breaking 90 km/h. SOLID.
I really like the lean on these trucks, especially with the hangers flipped.
Complaints? I only have two really minor ones:
-the cast is pretty sloppy, you don't have a nice smooth finish like you would on a Paris truck or something, but that doesn't really matter
-the pivot cups have worn out really quickly for me, I went through two sets in a about 20 sessions. They're cheap and easy to replace though
I would highly recommend these as a cast truck for pretty much any application, especially if you're into downhill/freeriding. I'll just remind you though that I only had extensive experience on Bear Grizzlies (old model) prior to these trucks, so I can't say how they would compare to Crail/Randel/Paris etc. What I can say, is that they've been great trucks for me and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.
Feel free to send me a message if you have any specific questions!
drifter+soft wheels= my favorite board for literally EVERYTHING
setup= earthwing drifter, indy 169s, biltin bearings, and i have gone through red, yellow sector 9 wheels, ladera snot rockets, mini monsters, and many orangatangs. right now i am rocking the orange 4 prez. I use this board for EVERYTHING. Downhill and soft wheel sliding are my two main styles. i hit up bowls and half pipes on the occasion with this board. The kicks make it so popping on and off curbs is easier too. I have hit 50mph on this setup, and also have standup slides up to 35-40mph. it is my FAVORITE do everything board EVER. the graphic is hella sick. only complaint is that it could be a little longer because whenever i am riding and then want to go into my tuck, my back foot ends up on the tail, which is a little weird, but i have gotten somewhat used to it. you have so much leverage on the trucks because of the fact you are on top of them, which allows for more grip and turn-taking ability.
Awesome x2
Those trucks ride great, like the best Randal truck you could imagine, lower, greater looking and not that much overpriced for a such improvement.
They can do anything with just few adjustment,
You want to Carve: double soft cone, big wheels
Cruise: Barrel/cone or double cone
Freeride/Slide: you play with the bushing duros; you put new wheels and shred the gnar
Downhill : You put the wheel of your choice, harder bushings, double barrel
the axle system permit you to change the wheels very fast.
Moreover the 10mm axle are very precise and secured.
You just have to remember to put your kingpin with nut roadside and the lifetime of those truck will be close to infinite.
Not a speedboard! Awesome for other freeride disciplines
Ok I'm not sure why it has an average of 8.8/10 for sliding... It bounces you out of slides, has flex and isn't greatly stable in comparison to other boards so sliding isn't what it was made for...
Anyway - this board is sick. Even better with high-rebound bushings! Carving is beautiful, pumping is quite nice (not many boards this size are good for pumping) and it rides very smoothly. This board is the ultimate low-gradient/flat land board, matching with Loaded's new Tan Tien.
This board is fantastic as a 1st board as it will help you decide what discipline of longboarding you like most, as they are all possible with this - Pool riding, carving, DH, freeride, dancing, sliding, etc etc...
I highly recommend you have this board if you are relatively new to the sport, or you can try the similar Tan Tien (which is more expensive).
Good cruiser, scary on steeps even when you are sliding
I find that many people grow out of loaded boards eventually. Also I would not recommend this board for gnarly freeride even though some people can wreck hills on them. For sliding steeps I recommend a stiff board. That being said, the energy of the dervish makes shallow hills tons of fun. I don't think it's overpriced if it's what you are looking for. Plenty of decks are 150 bucks, but for some reason loaded gets more crap for it.
Manatee! solid board
This is one sweet top mount. The concave is very comfortable and perfect for DH and some freeride. This baord is very stable. Just took it to maryhill and bombed the whole thing fealing very secure in it. On the corners its very nimble and extremely fun to surf corners on.
As freeride goes standies are incredible! speed checks (standup) take a bit to get use to but at higher speeds they are easy and very controlled. Doing predrifts are a dream with the big amount of deck space and the perfect taper so you can lock your feet in.
My only complaint is that while doing a run down a steep and technical hill i didnt make one corner and the board flipped over. Didnt seam like anything bad but their was a big chuck taken out of the side of it. Just cosmetic but with a different construction this could have been only a scratch..
Overall a wonderful board. Great for DH and Freeride and is my current Go to board.
DH Missile
If you have any interest in seeing what it feels like to ride atop a surface to air missile, this is the board for you. I have mine setup with Randal 42 plates and hangars, 80a 4prez, and Venom Eliminators all around. It's a wondrous DH board. You honestly feel like you are absolutely rocketing on this thing. The W concave really helps to provide that mythical "locked-in" feel that seems to be so important with downhill/free-ride boards.
You won't turn into Kyle Chin overnight, but free-riding on this thing comes fairly naturally. Make sure you stay set on 70mm wheels or smaller. It's pretty easy to get wheel-bite on a loose setup if you aren't careful, but if you are planning on just going straight (which is honestly the best application for the Avenger) you could probably get away with a slightly larger wheel like an In-Heat or BigZig.
Definitely not a cruiser, but who would buy it for that reason anyway. Again, the shape of this board really provides an amazing, speeding arrow type of feel. Second to none.
Enjoy, I certainly do.
