ISPO

(Large crew after second day at the FORTrate booth)

ISPO

Ramón Königshausen, Tamara Prader and I were in Munich, Germany last weekend for four days at one of Europe's largest sport trade shows. I attended to promote my gear sponsors and supporters Orangatang Wheels, Vicious Griptape, Fullbag Skateboards, Aera Trucks, Darkspeed Concepts, Risch Aerohelmets, and Patagonia outdoor clothing.

ISPO, Munich is not just a winter trade show for snow sports, but a sixteen building show of all things clothing, action sports, sport related electronic, manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, ski / snowboard, outdoor, performance and sport style.

Weekly Roundup 02.03.12

Meeting

Photo by Cindy Goodman of NEWS Photo

It's been a big week for us here at Skate[Slate]. Not only did we hit 10,000 fans on Facebook, we're also entering into our third year on the 'net. We're two years old, baby!!! We're going to be doing all sorts of stuff to celebrate, including some pretty awesome gear giveaways, so stay alert. In the meantime, here's the last week at a glance:

Change is afoot for skaters in North Vancouver: Fines are increasing and police are now allowed to impound boards for up to 24 hours. This is obviously not a change for the better. Read the article and start thinking about how to be proactive in your community to keep it skater friendly. Longboarders object to increased fines, confiscation in proposed North Van bylaw

Mister Anthony Flis is an all around radical liver of life and an excellent rider of skateboards. Follow him around for a day and witness a fellow who knows how to carpe the mother-effing diem. Day in the Life: Anthony Flis

The peeps at Deville Skateboarding did up a nifty video piece of the San Pedro slide jam that Wheelbase put on recently. There are lots of heavy hitters in this one. San Pedro, California Slide Jam 2012

Team Quebec profiled Dominic Pérusse, the dude behind Free For All Boardshop. The original article is in French, so if you ne parlez pas francais, you'll have to make do with this translation from Google. Definitely good for a laugh! Industry workers: Rider Profile - Dominic Pérusse

Because Justin Bieber feels the need to pervade every corner of the internet, he signed a car and some guy bought it to raise money for Bieber's hometown skatepark. All so that he could get mentioned in the weekly roundup. Stratford Hyundai Vehicle with Bieber Signature Sold! #newsflash

Lots of people went south for the Guajataca race this winter, so there are plenty of perspectives on the festivities. Check out the Push Culture News report as well as Billy Bones Meiners' edit for two very different takes!

Skip the coffee, it's not doing you any favours.

The much anticipated video by Adam Colton & Adam Stokowkski featuring the new Otangs is finally upon us. Featuring the skateboard stylings of Kyle Chin and Ethan Cochard, it's a shot of adrenaline straight to the eyeballs! Moreover, Adam and Adam explore some new filming territory, eschewing the pan and tilt style that they popularized for an upbeat, cut heavy style. Behold!!!:

Life On The Road: An Interview With Jonathan Douglas

JD in front of the van

Jonathan Douglas has been living on the road for a while now, skating and filming to his heart's content. We rang him up to ask a few questions about his migrant lifestyle. Check out some of his work for Loaded, both in front of the camera and behind it.

Justus: Where are you right now?

Jon: (Laughs) Right now I’m sitting by a dumpster outside of McDonalds using their WiFi, living it up!

Justus: Life on the road, eh? That’s awesome.

Justus: Why don’t you introduce yourself a little bit?

Jon: My name’s Jonathan Douglas, I’m 18 years old, just out of high school. I’ve been skating for a year and a half, almost two years now and it’s basically taken over my life. I had plans to go do the whole university route but skating took over and that’s basically my only option! I love it so much, it’s my addiction.

Justus: I think that’s a pretty common story! What was it that inspired you to go on the trip, beyond your love of skating?

Jon: It was pretty much the options that I had: Go to school and get a job, or do something cool with the little bit of savings that you have. I basically just thought of the coolest thing I could think of, being on the road for long periods of time in a really cool spot, escaping the Calgary winter. This was pretty much the best thing I came up with.
