Contest: So You Think You Can Skate?

Skate[Slate], Never Summer, and Bern Helmets are looking for the next big thing. The three companies are collaborating to bring you the “So You Think You Can Skate” competition for the next 30 days, ending September 15th at 11:59pm. We are looking for longboard skate tricks, racing maneuvers, big air, big slides, etc… we are looking to be impressed. If the video makes your friends go “WoW”, then you have something worthy to submit. If the video makes your mom or girlfriend say “Wow”, then get a second opinion from your dad or buddies… moms & girlfriends always say “Wow”. Basically we’re looking to be impressed. So how about the film quality? Yes, it does matter, but not as much. If you can film with a good camera, take time to edit your video, use a tripod, or add some cool graphics.. it definitely makes a difference.. but it’s not the primary aspect we are judging, it’s secondary. Read on for rules, prizes, and tips.

Here are the Rules...

-          Entries can be submitted as soon as August 16th. The last entries allowed can be submitted as of September 15th at 11:59pm PST. If your entry comes in on September 16th? You Failed.

-          60 seconds or less. If you can’t impress us in 60 seconds, then we’re probably not going to be impressed. It’s a skate video after all, not ski down Everest… so figure out your shots, get your skate sequence or trick nailed, and wrap it up under 60 seconds.

-          You can use whatever music you want, or no music, the audio track is up to you. Use it to enhance the film, or show off your personality, there’s no rule on music.

-          You must be wearing a helmet

-          Videos that involve skating around, under, or attached to moving vehicles will not be accepted. Remember, we want you alive to accept the prize at the end.

Here's How to Submit

-          Upload your video to your personal YouTube account. You can title your video whatever you want, but please end it with the following appendix, “ Yourname – Skate[Slate] Skate Contest”. So an example title would be, “Car Jump – John Smith - Skate[Slate] Video Contest”. We are looking for the name of the submitting skater, not the filmer.

-          Send us an email to  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with the link to your posted video. You will receive a confirmation email once received.

-          Post your video as a video response to Skate[Slate] Preamble Video on YouTube. It’s easy to do, but if you are not sure how, you can watch this cheesy video for instructions.

-          You must complete all 3 steps above to be considered.

Prizes

-          1st Place – Never Summer Soldier Complete,  Skate[Slate] Longboard DVD Pack (Fellowship of the Bearing DVD, Living Free DVD, Second Nature DVD, No Future DVD), Bern Helmet & Full Pad Set.

-          2nd Place – Never Summer Heist Complete, Skate[Slate] Longboard DVD Pack (Fellowship of the Bearing DVD, Living Free DVD, Second Nature DVD, No Future DVD), Bern Helmet

Judges & Judging

Judging will occur the third week of September after all entries have been submitted, and the winners will be announced shortly after. While the final voting will come from judges representing Skate[Slate], Never Summer, and Bern.... the judges will definitely be influenced by the number of votes your video receives on YouTube, so don’t forget to spread the word about your video to your friends and contacts.
