78a- SUPER GRIPPY!
Great Job Sector 9!
I was skeptical when getting these wheels for free (lucky me) but that changed when I switched my durians (now my slidey wheels) to these wheels as a daily commuter (and long distance cruiser, light bomber, and insane carver) I love the look of the yellow wheels when they came fresh out of packaging, and riding these are just as sick as it's looks. (10 performance) I'm not much for downhill racing but I can say that a lot of people rocked these wheels at Winsport earlier in the month. (maybe due to the fact that the Sector 9 team was out in full force.)
Only one thing. NEVER SLIDE THESE WHEELS!!! I dont care how much the 82a wheels are slidy, these are too good for sliding around!
82a - A Nice Set of Wheels
The Sector 9 82a 74mm Race Formula's are a very pleasing wheel. The 74mm size is not too far away from the sweet spot of 70mm, keeping them quick in acceleration and smooth on all sorts of surfaces. The wide contact patch provides a great amount of grip and when paired with the 82a durometer they have just the right amount of slip. They hold their speed wonderfully and fair well in downhill; true to the 'race formula' name. These wheels have also proven excellent in freeriding. After the contact patch is broken in and the sharp lips are softened/worn away, the wheels become great for throwing speed checks and 180's. Sliding like this tends to be right in between icy and buttery. They wear evenly and slowly: and excellent quality for a downhill/freeride wheel. I recommend them for any setup where the size will be appropriate.
82a great on the right pavement.
I won a set of these at a race, and at first they were great, grippy as hell, fast, sexy lookin wheels. Then I started riding them on some rougher paved roads: the smooth predictable drift became loose and wild, with the rear darting out unexpectedly (grabbing rail ftw) and the wheels lost a lot of their grip.
I haven't gotten a set of the yellows yet but I expect them to solve that problem.
Great wheels, as long as the roads are smooth.
nice for racingg
These wheels are very nice, and are very grippy. Once you break them in the urethane has a very controllable and predictable drift. so if you're on a track where you need some slip and then some grip these wheels could be for you
